Summer Wk5 Interaction VS Interactivity; People VS Technology

… debunk & debate…

First, I must expose myself by saying that there are a few assumptions in Fayh’s chapter that I do not necessarily agree with. Two points of contention that I would like to explore with you are the following:

[1] interaction should be adjusted to individual needs and preferences (Fayh, 2008, p. 170) – I find this statement problematic as it seems to assume that interaction is a given property in online learning. Well, this is simply not the case. Instead, it is contingent upon learning styles and preferences amongst others. It is an emergent property. How does one adjust interaction to individual needs and preferences? Isn’t interaction a process? What do you think? To what extent if at all can we adjust interaction as designers of online instruction?

[2] technology is a channel through which mode such as, text, video or audio pass through. Is technology just like a pipeline through which our design of online instruction flows through? I could not disagree more. What about you?
